In newer versions of Firefox, *THEY* have *DARED* to *FORCE* *US* to
*SUFFER* with what *THEY* *FEEL* is a scrollbar (aka the 'Adwaita'
STINKS ON ICE scrollbar)

At least, in Linux and FreeBSD.

FORTUNATELY *I* have DONE THE RESEARCH! And it works for thunderbird as
well

There are 2 "about:config" settings you need to change. These are

widget.non-native-theme.enabled set this to FALSE
widget.content.gtk-theme-override set this to the theme you want FF to
use (like "TraditionalOk")

do this and even across a remote X connection you will see the CORRECT
scrollbar appearance.

there are other settings you can tweek if you prefer that FUGLY thing
that PRETENDS to be a scrollbar. Or you can mess with your own themes
directly (whatever, now that YOU have CONTROL back!)

yes - this reflects the *ARROGANCE* *OF* *THE* *DEVELOPER* that *FEELS*
that HE KNOWS BEST WHAT *YOU* *NEED*.

but... one thing for sure, FF did NOT remove the ABILITY to customize it
BACK to something REASONABLE. YET, anyway...

I'd learned enough to know that their whole family dynamic
was just one transvestite midget short of a Jerry Springer episode.

Check out the Seamonkey Internet suite, it's like old school netscape, still maintained. You can get noscript legacy and ublock origin for it too. Also there is a nice GTK theme called Raleigh Reloaded, it's like the GTK2 Raleigh theme but it works with GTK3 as well so it's consistent across programs.
